What is the SMOTIES project about?
SMOTIES - Creative Works with Small and Remote Places” is a project of the ‘Human Cities’ network. Under certain conditions, ten small and remote places were selected that are affected by a strong rural depopulation, among other things, but also represent important sources of (im)material cultural heritage. The SMOTIES network is committed to their preservation and development.
CONCEPTUAL IDEA
The exhibition is designed as a tour through various stations, each representing typical elements of a village.
Through the main entrance of the HDA, you first reach the introductory stations in the main street. Passing the petrol station, you start at the back of the village and enter the cinema, where a documentary film is being shown. Now you stroll through the space past house facades and through streets where the various country projects are presented. Here you will also notice green balconies and lanterns.
Finally, you reach the workshop, where the toolbox is presented as an outcome of the project.
The highlight of the exhibition is the village square, which shows the connection to the Austrian project in Oberzeiring. The library is also located here with various publications about the project.
